Host a Baby Shower on a Budget | Baby Shower Depot

Just because money is tight these days, it doesn?t mean you can?t throw a wonderful baby shower for your pregnant friends or family. It?s simply a matter of making certain choices, maybe some concessions and using your creativity.

Location:

Have it at someone?s home. Preferably not the Mom-to-Be so she doesn?t get too stressed out, but a close friend or family member will work. Also, consider having it at the church or temple they belong to. They sometimes let members use their facilities for free or for nominal fees. Lodges and firehouses also offer very friendly rates to both members and non-members.

Food:

Since you?re not going to a restaurant, that cost isn?t a concern. But you need to feed everyone and not go broke in the process. You can use a catering company; they may offer package deals depending on the number of attendees you are expecting with a variety of pricing options. There may be someone among the group who owns their own catering company or has a propensity for providing food for large gatherings that can offer you food at cost. And please don?t forget that ?pot luck? is no longer a dirty word. It encourages people to become more involved with the party and show off their specialties.

Decorations:

K.I.S.S. Mylar balloons look great, but they?re unreasonably expensive. Put up lots of colorful balloons around the room (blown up by generous party-preppers). Streamers and banners are inexpensive at most of the party stores. If you want to include flowers, don?t have a florist make individual pieces. Instead ask them for 3-5 large bouquets which you can then break down yourself. The cost difference is staggering. Disposable cameras on tables can also help ensure that special moments are captured during the excitement.

Baby Shower Favors:

Quite simply: make them. Go to a craft store and buy inexpensive vases or some other glass item. Fill them with colored M&M?s and attach a ribbon with the Mom-to-Be?s name and the date of the party. Fill a bag with candy or other baby-related items and put it into a ?diaper?, closed with a safety pin with the ?appropriate? color. Small, scented candles with stickers or ribbons are another option. Most party stores have an enormous collection of inexpensive baby shower related items that you can combine in a variety of ways.

A baby shower does not have to be an expensive affair to be a memorable one. Remember to have fun in the planning and that the most important thing is that the Mom-to-Be has a wonderful party that is well-suited for her style.
