Old Window Film Technology VS New Window Film ... - Simply Links

Johannesburg, South Africa, 24 February 2012

?

In a recent Window Film Indaba at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton Johannesburg, Leon Levy the founder of Klingshield, the largest distributors and installers of window film and tinting in the South African market, discussed in detail the difference between new window film technology and old window film technology.? Levy was also the inventor of see-through signage worldwide utilizing window film in his patency.

?

When I started out four decades ago, the window film business offered an aesthetic benefit as it consisted of dyed films in two colours -? brown and grey,? which were attached to windows to change the colour of the glass. This process offered a slick tinted look to windows which designers and decorators used to improve the visual look of their projects.? Over the years improvement and advances were made in the manufacture of window film and reflective metalized films were being laminated to the dyed films to offer a reflective look once applied to glass.

?

The market place started to utilize these window film products to reflect the sunlight from passing through glass.? Window films became known as energy savers and were being installed in offices, homes and cars to reduce temperatures inside spaces as well as reducing the glare. Some consumers were also installing window film because it stopped up to 99% of the ultraviolet which causes furnishings,? fabrics and upholstery to fade .

?

In recent years window film manufactures have come out with new sophisticated technology in window film with the introduction of many new products which offer far more advantages than old technology window film said Levy at the Indaba.

?

With the introduction of ceramic sputtered film the consumer can now have a window film applied to his windows which will stop most of the sun?s heat in summer and also keeping in most of the generated heat in the room in winter.? The new generation window film is very light,? allowing in most of the natural light, unlike the old style window films which created dark rooms to get the same effect as the new generation ceramic sputtered films. This is a major breakthrough said Levy.

?

Another new window film technology is now also available said Levy. Switchable retro self adhesive window film has now entered the world market.?? This window film consists of a liquid crystal polymer which changes the appearance of window film with the use of electrical currents from a clear window to an opaque window at the touch of a button.

?

Transition films are on our drawing board which will adjust with the amount of sunlight from clear to highly reflective once the film is applied to windows. This will offer the best of both worlds - similar to sunglasses? that get darker when one is exposed to a sunny outdoor situation and goes clear when one goes indoors said Levy.

The next move will be prescription window film designs for one?s personal preferences.

?

These are exciting times for us as leaders in window film technology and Innovation, said Levy with lots of passion and excitement in his voice!
