State university faculty contract talks end for the day without an agreement

After six hours of bargaining, negotiators for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and its faculty union walked away from the table without an agreement.

No date was set for another round of negotiations.

"I am disappointed at the progress," said Steve Hicks, president of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties, which represents the more than 5,000 faculty members at the 14 state universities, after the session ended.

The faculty's contract expired June 30, 2011.

A system spokesman could not be reached for comment
