Updated: December 18, 2012 7:27PM

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with disorderly conduct, a city ordinance violation, for allegedly shooting an Airsoft air pistol near a Yorkville church Monday. Police said the boy was shooting the air gun at his mailbox, but startled several people who were dropping their children off for Bible study classes at the nearby church.

Yorkville police said they were called around 4:20 p.m. Monday to St. Patrick?s Church, 406 Walnut St., where doctrine and Bible study classes were in session.

The 17-year-old was found in possession of an Airsoft air pistol, and was taken into custody without incident, police said. No one was injured. Police said that no threats were made by the boy, and that he didn?t appear to be pointing the air gun directly at anyone.

Officers from the Yorkville, Oswego and Plano police departments and the Kendall County Sheriff?s Department all responded to the scene. The boy was released to his parents, police said.
